Changes in digestive cancer diagnosis during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic in Italy: A nationwide survey

AbstractBackground The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic has had a huge impact on healthcare systems, resulting in many routine diagnostic procedures either being halted or postponed. Aims To evaluate whether the diagnoses of colorectal, gastric and pancreatic cancers have been impacted by Italy. Methods A survey designed to collect number histologically-proven three gastroenterology services across Italy from January 1 October 31 2017–2020. Non-parametric ANOVA for repeated measurements was applied compare distributions years macro-areas. Results Compared 2019, 2020 cancer decreased 15.9%, CRC 11.9% 9.9%. showed significant differences between all years, stomach 2018 2019–2020, only 2017 2019. 2019–2020 comparison fewer North (-13.7%), Center (-16.5%) South (-4.1%), (-19.0%) (-9.4%), (-14.1%) (-4.7%), with an increase (+12.3%).
